Last weekend the U10A Lake Erie North Stars traveled to Cambridge to compete in the Preston International Hockey Tournament, an event that has been running for 66 years and brings together strong competition from across the region.
The weekend was about more than just hitting the ice for some hockey. It was an opportunity for the team to grow together, build confidence, strengthen friendships, and create memories that will stay with these players long after the final buzzer.
The North Stars put together an impressive tournament run, going undefeated in the round-robin portion and earning a spot in the semifinals. Following an early Sunday morning semifinal appearance, the team secured an 8–4 win to clinch their place in the championship game, where they ultimately faced another undefeated team. While the final didn’t go their way, the Stars finished the tournament as finalists — a great accomplishment for the group.
The tournament also featured a skills competition, with four North Stars stepping up to represent the U10A team:
- Speed & Agility – Elliott Santarossa
- Hardest Shot – Yaseen Hemida
- Fastest Skater – Jayce Motruk
- Shooting Accuracy – Jace Autterson
Congratulations to Yaseen Hemida, who captured 1st place in his division, and a huge shout-out to Elliott, Jayce, and Jace, who each finished top three in their respective events.
One of the highlights for the players was the chance to compete at the historic Galt Arena, recognized as the oldest operating hockey arena in the world — a unique experience few young players get.
This weekend was about competing, learning, and growing together as a team — both on and off the ice. The effort, sportsmanship, and teamwork shown by this group made it a memorable experience for players, families, and coaches alike.
A huge thank-you to the coaching staff, who dedicate countless hours throughout the year to help these players develop, compete, and enjoy the game. Your commitment makes opportunities like this possible.
Finally, a very special shout out to all of our sponsors this year. This season and tournament run would not be possible without the incredible support of our sponsors. Your generosity helps provide opportunities, experiences, and memories for our players that will last a lifetime.
