FAQ (Lake Erie Minor Hockey)

FAQ

*I see Lake Erie is Running House League this year instead of Local League. What does this mean for my player?

Yes! We are very excited to be running a House League program this season instead of Local League. What this means is teams only play within our association. This allows for more consistent scheduling and regulation of teams. There is opportunity to play other associations during exhibition games and on Select teams.

*When does the season start?

We typically start evaluation skates in September with teams being formed by the end of September and the season starting in October.

*What days and times will my child play?

Unfortunately, we will not have this information until the season starts as we need to know the number of player/teams we need to accommodate. Fortunately with Lake Erie running House League instead of Local League this should allow for a more consistent schedule.

*What centre will my child play out of?

When you register you will be asked your preferred centre. Although this will not guarantee your child’s centre, we will place them in your preferred centre on a first registered first served bases. The number of registrants and their chosen centre will determine if everyone can be accommodated. Your preferred centre will only apply to practices as games will take place at both centres.

*Are there any programs for used hockey equipment?

Yes! County Hockey Moms (Visit them on FB or send them an email)

*It’s my players first year, can they start at a lower age group?

Register them for their proper age group. During evaluation skates your player will be assessed and may be placed at a lower age group if necessary.

*My child is exceptional at hockey and should be placed in an older age group. What should I do?

Register them for their proper age group. During evaluation skates your player will be assessed and may be placed at a higher age group if necessary.

*I have multiple children registered. Can I get them on the same team?

Depending on their age categories and skill level it may be possible to place them in the same age group, but this will be decided during evaluation skates. Please notify our House League VP of your interest.

*I have a child that is interested in goaltending. What resources are available?

Lake Erie Minor Hockey does have equipment for teams to use during the season and offers free goalie clinics to all registered goalies. Prospects Athletics also offers goalie development sessions outside of the sessions they run for our organization.

*I am interested in signing up my young child but they don’t know how to skate yet. Is this ok?

We would recommend they have some skating skills as our programs are designed to improve skating and teach hockey skills. We would suggest they take a learn to skate program first. Skate Canada offers programs in Kingsville, Harrow and Amherstburg. Lake Erie Minor Hockey will also be offering an introduction to hockey program for players aged 6-11 called Bauer First Shift Program. Registration will open in June so please visit our website soon for more information.

We hope this helps answer any questions you may have.
