Introducing Jared Mailloux!
Jared Mailloux
U8 Head Coach
My name is Jared Mailloux, I was born and raised in Amherstburg Ontario, and now reside in Harrow
Ontario with my wife and two sons. I was raised on my family farm on the outskirts of Amherstburg, where
lessons of hard work and the passion for hockey first began.
Into my later teenage years my persistence led me to being offered to play college hockey in Grand
Rapids Michigan, while continuing my education at the same time. I decided I want to pursue hockey as
more than just a sport I played, and when I finished my playing career, I went on to work in Pro Hockey
with Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, where I spent 3 years in a role with Game Operations for the
Toronto Marlies of the AHL, This environment combined my own passion for the sport of hockey, my
goals of working in pro sports, and also included growing the passion of hockey for the younger
generations through programs like Scotiabank hockey, Timbits hockey, and local GTA hockey
organization attending and participating in events the Toronto Marlies hosted.
I then went on to working in the sporting goods industry under FGL Sports, where I used my knowledge
gained over the years to help families make sure they supplied themselves with the right equipment that
suited their needs. From then to present, I turned my focus to my family and now currently work locally in
the Harrow area.
Growing up I always attended the AMHA hockey camps and summer programs, which to this day, are still
a highlight of my childhood and I can remember them like yesterday, the coaches and mentors involved,
dedicated their time to make sure the next generation had the opportunity and skill set to be equipped to
compete. To this day, I still see some of them around the local arenas and always make sure to have
conversation. That impact they had on me inside and outside of hockey, is something I hope I can
develop and pass on to the generations behind me, and keep the passion for this great game alive. My
father was involved in coaching for 25+ years, and selflessly dedicated his time to the community, even
after myself and my brother were done our playing careers, and to me, that is an important family staple I
want carry on.
Hockey has taught me lessons that are transferable to both inside and outside the arena. There are many
life lessons you learn from your earliest years playing the game, to your final game. There is a direct
correlation between sports, school and home life where lessons can be utilized. I think sports are a great
outlet, and educator, for developing the next generation. I have had many great coaches and mentors
over the years, all of them gained my respect and I still speak with a lot of them to this day. This displays
the impact a coach can have on their players, and my goal is to lead by example and become that same
coach / mentor I once admired.
In my days of minor hockey, we never were the best team locally, regionally, or provincially, but we were
always taught to have fun, play our hardest, and leave it all on the ice. Determination, passion, and work
ethic, can out power skill. If you have the passion, and the willingness to go on the ice and try your
hardest, win or lose, you (the team) can say you did your best. I was always taught to build off your
failures and carry on your successes, so if a goal is set from the beginning of the season, then we work
together as a team to meet that goal by the end of it.
At this level, my coaching model will be to keep the game fun and exciting, at the same time helping two
associations (groups of kids) merge into one team. All while focusing on skill development and
understanding of the game, making our association relevant and competitive when facing our
opponents.
Respect. Hard Work. Have Fun. These are the values that underpin my coaching practices.
