Jason Melo
U9 Head Coach
A life-long resident of Windsor / Essex County Jason grew up playing minor hockey in Essex,
moving on to the Sun County Panthers ‘AAA’ organization upon its inaugural season. As an
underage player he spent 2 seasons with the Essex 73s before graduating to the Jr. B
Tecumseh Bulldogs. From there he spent time with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles of the
Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and culminated his playing career with the
University of Windsor Lancers from 2000 – 2004, where he was a 4-time Academic All
Canadian.
Jason has coached competitive youth hockey at the boys’ and girls’ levels since 2021. He is a
passionate coach that focuses on continuous improvement and describes his coaching style as
simple, disciplined, with an intense focus on outworking opponents each and every game. He
also enjoys coaching competitive soccer, baseball and other developmental hockey programs.
Jason’s passion for hockey has led to investment in various related businesses and he is
currently the President and co-owner of the Leamington Flyers Jr “A” Hockey Club, Powertech
Hockey Development, and the BioSteel Sports Academy. Away from the rink, Jason is the
Founding Partner and Chairman of Melo Professional Group, which provides comprehensive
accounting, wealth management and financial services through offices in both Canada and the
United States, employing approximately 200 professionals. He currently resides in Kingsville
with his wife Kelly and 2 children, Gemma (11) and Augustus (7).
